My Green Coffee

Taking a break from my philosophy paper, I reflect on were I am. I'm sitting at my favorite coffee place in Holland, MI - Lemonjello's. This has got to be one of the greenest places in Holland.

The coffee is organic and produced using sustainable farming practices. They bake almost all their own baked goods, which not only cuts down on the carbon footprint of the food, but also means I know I'm not putting anything in my body (like preservatives) that may be harmful to me. And they make a mean blueberry muffin, in my humble opinion.

They use real cups and silverware if you're sitting and staying to eat. I like that they don't automatically hand you plastic stuff that will be thrown away five minutes after you receive it. The "plastic" cups that they reserve for smoothies and to-go drinks, are actually made out of corn and plant products and can be composted. How cool is that? So when you're done with your smoothie, just chuck your cup in the garden! The owners are even starting to compost some of their leftovers.

From composting and recycling to providing responsible disposable materials, Lemonjello's really gets it. And guess what? They make a profit and have a great following. Hmmmm, interesting... a company that is using green materials and green practices is making money. :-)

I suggest you give them a shot.
